Bailey Cooper wondered what forced her to follow these motions. She still burned—vestiges of Mossdeep that she continued to chase, wanting to feel the fire of the victory star that she had become. It had been a heat so hot, so all-consuming, that it had felt like the only path for the wayward Sergeant to follow.[break][break]

It had felt good. It had felt right.[break][break]

The cast from her broken arm was gone—heal pulse had made short work of that traumatic injury, even if it still flared. Her travel to this gym had been done to scratch at her itch, an itch that continued to push her to seek challenges. It had existed before Mossdeep... and now, she felt it start to take shape in her mind, redefining an urge that she could never explain.[break][break]

Battling could be an outlet—good or bad. What had once been an outlet for mourning had shifted, turning from smoldering ash into something that rumbled beneath her skin. Get stronger, she thought, so that you could never experience these pains ever again.[break][break]

She had been told that this gym was different, and that made itself abundantly clear after taking a moment to read the rules... and a moment of wonder, where Bailey Cooper pondered the dissonance of this gym from the outside world.[break][break]

The woman would enter, one pokeball on her waist, as she awaited the appearance of the gym leader... and when the girl's presence filled the room, the Sergeant would issue her challenge. “One on one. We can play by your rules,” as strange as they were.

After the last few contenders she was hoping the edits to her rules would clarify things. With a small yawn she noticed Linwood was trying to get her attention. Usually that meant one of two things, food or a battle. Considering everyone here was just finishing up eating, it seemed a visitor was at the door.[break][break]

She never liked rushing her Pokemon, but they knew the drill, plus they in their excitement finished up on their own.[break][break]

With a stretch and a sigh, she really didn't want a repeat of the goodra. It wasn't cheap to fix the hole it blasted, it wasn't there anymore thanks to money, but she would go poor if it kept happening. Standing she made her way along with her Pokemon to the stage area.[break][break]

She noticed a brown haired girl, short hair, with a rather seriousness to her. With a silent curiousness, she listened as she followed the rules. Her rules, alright, she hadn't selected a Pokemon so she would do the honors. Looking at her Lilligant, the small flower like Pokemon jump forth.[break][break]

Esme then smiled Hope you win.[break][break]

Not a typical response, but Esme wasn't the typical gym leader.[break][break]

This was going to take awhile.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper stared at the Lilligant, unable to shake the feeling that a battle of status ailments would be a battle of the Metapods—two pokemon repeating harden because it was all that they had to offer.[break][break]

“Alright, Tip. You're up,” and she would finally reach to her waist to release the large, iceburge-like pokemon from the confines of his capsule; the Avalugg's tired gaze observing his surroundings before he began to lazily shuffle forward. The ice-type had always been low energy. For a match like this, he would be a perfect fit—her other pokemon would protest at the thought of being forced into a battle with rules such as this.[break][break]

She would smile, watching as he took his time to prepare for the battle. “Just take it at your own pace, big guy,” and her gaze would raise to the gym leader and her reassurances.[break][break]

“Time to chill,” and something in her gaze would change, as if she were looking past the woman at the other end of the gym.[break][break]

Avalugg used Hail! [break]

Lost in her own thoughts, Bailey Cooper knew her gaze would be obscured as Avalugg opened his maw—the air that billowed from his breath condensed like smoke—before the air would thicken, condensing until small, sharp fragments of ice would overtake the area that they were designated to battle.[break][break]

Harmless to its surroundings, the hail would lazily spin in the artificial storm, only causing harm to those that could not tolerate the cold.
